Every year in late summer some of the best musicians worldwide meet in Israel for The Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival (JCMF), established by pianist Elena Bashkirova and advocate Yeheskell Beinisch. In 2016, the 19th Festival was dedicated to interrelated composers like Brahms/Schumann or Schubert/Beethoven – played by outstanding artists like Sir András Schiff, Baiba Skride, Menahem Pressler or Emmanuel Pahud in the halls of the Jerusalem YMCA. more

Even if the music world is often dominated by rivalry, examples of genuine friendships can certainly be found. Take Johannes Brahms and Antonín Dvořák: a pair whose friendship was free of self-interest. “That fellow has more ideas than all the rest of us. Zubin Mehta at 80 – The birthday concerts from Mumbai

“I’m a pucca Indian. Mumbai is my home,” says Zubin Mehta about his birthplace. The Musical Director for Life of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra traveled to India with “his” inspiring 110-member orchestra and on April 17th and 18th, 2016 they celebrated Maestro Mehta’s 80th birthday with two fantastic concerts at the National Center of Performing Arts in Mumbai. more

In 2013, Lucerne was celebrating: the renowned Lucerne Festival turned 75 after it was launched in 1938 under the baton of Arturo Toscanini. In addition, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra celebrated its tenth anniversary with its founder Claudio Abbado – who turned 80 in 2013. Every year in Lucerne he gathers world-famous soloists who are willing to “do the craziest things I ask of them in the interest of the compositions: to fly or to go through the fire”. more
