On December 26th, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated its 80th anniversary with an all-Beethoven program.
The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) was founded in 1936 by Bronislaw Huberman and its inaugural concert, on 26 December 1936, was conducted by Arturo Toscanini. 80 years later on the same day, Zubin Mehta, the orchestra’s musical director for life, conducted the IPO in a veritable Jubilee Concert. Mehta – who celebrated his own 80th birthday earlier in 2016 – joined by his longtime artistic friends Pinchas Zukerman, Amanda Forsyth, and Yefim Bronfman.
The program:
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)
Violin Concerto
Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano
Zubin Mehta, conductor
Pinchas Zukerman, violin, Amanda Forsyth, cello, Yefim Bronfman, piano
Recording date: 26 December 2016, Charles Bronfman Auditorium, Tel Aviv
