Gustavo Dudamel & Wiener Philharmoniker – The Closing Gala Concert from Lucerne Festival 2010

The Closing Gala Concert from Lucerne Festival in Summer 2010 could not have been more colorful. Gustavo Dudamel and the Wiener Philharmoniker framed their concluding concert with the sound of drums: a drum roll and an insistent rhythm, respectively.
Rossini’s fizzy Overture to “The Thieving Magpie” begins with a snare drum solo, while Ravel’s famous “Boléro” is based on a metrical pattern played unrelentingly by this instrument. The program included Cuban composer Julián Orbón’s “Versiones Sinfónicas,” which paid homage to three different sound worlds: the Spanish dance of the pavane, medieval processional song, and Afro-Caribbean music. Rhythmic drive also plays a key role in Leonard Bernstein’s Divertimento. (Source: Lucerne Festival)

The Closing Gala Concert was broadcasted live in more than 50 cinemas in Europe on 18 September 2010.

The program is not available for distribution or licensing.
