Israel Philharmonic Orchestra – 80th Anniversary Gala Concert with Zubin Mehta
On December 26th 2016 the Israel Philharmonic celebrated its 80th anniversary with an all-Beethoven program.
The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) was founded in 1936 by Bronislaw Huberman and its inaugural concert, on 26 December 1936, was conducted by Arturo Toscanini. 80 years later on the same day, Zubin Mehta, the orchestra’s musical director for life, conducted the IPO in a veritable Jubilee Concert. Mehta – who celebrated his own 80th birthday earlier in 2016 – was joined by his longtime artistic friends Pinchas Zukerman, Amanda Forsyth, and Yefim Bronfman.
